Cathrynn Brown was one of ten New Mexico state lawmakers honored May 25 by New Mexico First for her exceptional leadership and bipartisan contributions to our government.
The awards highlighted the annual First Forum lecture series in Albuquerque, and this year New Mexico First hosted keynote speaker Cokie Roberts discussing “The Politics of Good Government.” Roberts is best known for her work on ABC and National Public radio. She was joined at the event by her ABC colleague Sam Donaldson who served as moderator for the evening.
Donaldson read this tribute to the state representative from Eddy County:
“Cathrynn Brown is a freshman state representative who saw two of her seven pieces of legislation reach the Governor’s desk---a very substantial accomplishment for this Carlsbad Republican. Brown’s bill to reduce the time for which a custodial parent can seek retroactive child support received broad support from the house and the senate, only to meet a pocket veto. However Brown’s legislation to raise the threshold on income subject to audit for nonprofits dealing with state government not only passed both houses unanimously, the bill was signed into law. Brown’s resolve to cross party lines to bring change to New Mexico definitely makes her a rising star in the spirit of bipartisanship.”
