Conrad James was one of ten New Mexico state lawmakers honored May 25 by New Mexico First for his exceptional leadership and bipartisan contributions to our government.
The awards highlighted the annual First Forum lecture series in Albuquerque, and this year New Mexico First hosted keynote speaker Cokie Roberts discussing “The Politics of Good Government.” Roberts is best known for her work on ABC and National Public radio. She was joined at the event by her ABC colleague Sam Donaldson who served as moderator for the evening.
Donaldson read this tribute to James:
“In this year’s legislative session, the first for State Representative Conrad James, he saw two of his bills make it through both houses. He saw other proposals—which he admits were ideologically more polarizing—get tabled in committee. But the Albuquerque Republican says this quickly taught him the necessity for compromise to bring solutions to the problems of his constituents. James has said he will strive to be a ‘happy warrior’: one who can engage in rigorous philosophical debate with the opposition while remaining statesmanlike, humorous and devoid of malice.”
