Joseph Cervantes Receives Spirit of Bipartisanship Award
Joseph Cervantes was one of ten New Mexico state lawmakers honored May 25 by New Mexico First for his exceptional leadership and bipartisan contributions to our government.
The awards highlighted the annual First Forum lecture series in Albuquerque, and this year New Mexico First hosted keynote speaker Cokie Roberts discussing “The Politics of Good Government.” Roberts is best known for her work on ABC and National Public radio. She was joined at the event by her ABC colleague Sam Donaldson who served as moderator for the evening.
Donaldson read this tribute to State Representative Cervantes:
“Joseph Cervantes is a Las Cruces Democrat honored for his critical and detailed analysis of bills…analysis that leaders of both parties rely on as the state representative reviews legislation guided by issue and not driven by party lines. Cervantes sponsored and passed the Whistle Blower Protection Act and he sponsored and passes legislation that requires conference committees to be open to the government. Cervantes is dedicated to cleaning up government corruption and creating more transparency in government and he works acr€oss the aisle to bring improvements to his constituents.”
