Las Vegas Opens NM Health Insurance Exchange Dialogue

Statewide public forums on affordable health insurance kick off at the City of Las Vegas Council Chamber Room April 28 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.

The community meeting is for input on a New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange. The exchange will provide “one-stop shopping” to help individuals and small businesses compare, select, and enroll in quality, affordable healthcare plans. The state of New Mexico is following federal law by initiating the exchange and the goal is to have NMHIE in service by 2014.

Any member of the public is encouraged to attend to share their ideas on how this exchange will operate and how the exchange can fit personal healthcare needs. There is no fee to attend, but participants are asked to register at http://nmfirst.org/events/health-exchange-overview.

The forums are sponsored by the New Mexico Office of Health Care Reform, and the meetings are facilitated by New Mexico First. There will also be community meetings next month in Portales and Las Cruces.
