New Mexico First Releases the New Mexico Progress Report
Report measures New Mexico policy failures, successes and challenges
In conjunction with New Mexico’s 100th anniversary New Mexico First released the New Mexico Progress Report. New Mexico needs a reliable document in which one can measure policy failures, successes, and challenges. This report was designed to broaden the understanding of citizens and lawmakers about issues facing New Mexico. The report reveals a vision for the future, challenges that must be overcome, measures of progress, and potential solutions. The report focuses on: education, economy, health and energy issues.
The first application for this report will be New Mexico First’s Centennial Town Hall on March 22-23. During that event – and hopefully beyond it – people will use this report to help point the way forward. Heather Balas, President of New Mexico First said, “The centennial provides a unique opportunity to ask, what should New Mexicans do differently in the future, and the progress report lends itself to that question.”
The New Mexico Progress Report is the result of closely examining 25 years of town hall recommendations, and thus the best ideas of thousands of New Mexicans. Balas noted, “The chance to combine the centennial motivation to inquire about the future, while learning from our past is way too good to pass up.”
Readers familiar with our reports will notice that this document is completely different than our typical policy backgrounders. Rather than offering a great deal of detail on one specific area, we are providing a “30,000 foot level” overview of several issues facing the state as whole.
