The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) has posted the proposed Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state education plan for public review and comment. Feedback from over 600 New Mexicans from the fall 2016 ESSA community outreach series, convened by the PED in partnership with New Mexico First, played a significant role in shaping the proposed plan.
You can access the proposed state plan and provide your comments via a feedback survey at http://www.ped.state.nm.us/ped/ESSA.html Public comments are due to the PED by 12:00 pm April 1, 2017. PED will submit the final plan for approval to the U.S. Department of Education in April.
In January 2017, New Mexico First released the NM Rising: Engaging our Communities for Excellence in Education final state summary report, reflecting education stakeholder feedback from the fall 2016 regional ESSA community outreach meetings that were held in Gallup, Farmington, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Roswell, and Las Cruces as well as a Tribal Government to Government meeting. Individual reports for each community, along with the statewide summary report can be downloaded at http://nmfirst.org/event-details/excellence-in-education.
